Japanese made easy!

Kanji?!

Kanji? 漢字?

You want to learn 漢字?

Did you know that the Japanese didn't have a written language hundreds of year     ago? Until the Chinese influence. Then they borrowed 漢字 for their own language.  there would have been no kana with out kanji.  Because Japanese is so different than Chinese, kanji wasn’t enough to put Japanese to print.  So kana was created to fill in the gaps... Any slack kanji left behind, kana took up.

Kanji has three readings:  On, Kun & Nanori.

On (on-yomi) is the chinese reading of the kanji.

Kun (Kun - yomi) is the Japanese reading of the word.

Nanori is used in peoples names.

I wont present any Nanori meanings... Sorry...

There is no diffident way to know which reading to choose, but there are some LOOSE guidelines that will help.  The On-yomi is usually used with compound words, 2 or more kanji like: 人間=human (ningen) and the Kun-yomi is used generally alone like: =dog (inu), =white (shiro).

They say you need about 500 kanji to just barely get by. But in reality 2000 kanji are needed in all.  Of course there are many more than that, but if you know 2000 your good.  But where do we start? At the beginning sounds good!!!

Are you smarter than a first grader?

If you said no, your probably right! ^___^

At least a Japanese one. Japanese children start learning Kanji in first grade.  They learn a total of 80 kanji in the course of a year.  I will start off with those 80, then more may come based on demand.

Notes...

All the floating ball Gifs you see below were made by me... They are a gift to my students, just right click and save them! Now you have cool kanji blue floating ball people!!! I hope you guys are greatful more the little blue kanji gifs... Because I work really hard on them, and it's a long process, and if I mess up, I have to redo the entire thing some times more than once.. ^__^;;; I'm starting to make them with colored backgrounds and themes! Tell me what you think!

The stray "t"s that you see are really  っ,see double consonants in "how to start" for details.

If you see like a million kun- yomi, then the Pink ones, are the one to really are concerned with.

All 80 are complete on this page, please visit kanji pg 2 for more kanji ^__^
